Portable
clocks include all clocks with balance wheels. Usually, thes
clocks employ a lever escapement with a bimetalic balance. Such
clocks inlude ships clocks (Chelsea, Seth Thomas, etc,) French carriage
clocks and high grade desk and alarm clocks like those made by LeCoultre. All
of these clocks require to be service like a precision watch. The
pivots MUST be checked and renewed, the jewel holes checked and the
escapement adjusted for wear. In addition, many of these clocks
have additional features (striking, repeating, or alarms).
Finally, French Carriage clocks must have all sttel work and brass
polished since part of their appeal is the presentation of the movement
in the glass paneled case. The basic service charges are:
